Student Academic Events
Student Academic & Enrichment Events
Edison Elementary School District is proud to offer a variety of academic events and enrichment activities that inspire students to grow, compete, and celebrate their achievements. These events motivate students, build character, and create lasting memories — and most importantly, they should always be fun!
We encourage all students to participate in events that interest them and fit their strengths. Whether or not a student earns an award, the experience of preparing, competing, and performing teaches valuable life lessons that go far beyond the classroom.
For more information about any of our events, please contact your school office or the Director of Educational Services.
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program organized by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS) for students in 3rd through 8th grade. Students read from a designated book list and then compete in school teams by demonstrating their knowledge of the books they have read. Competitions are typically run in a Jeopardy-style format where students answer questions identifying which book a particular event, character, or detail came from.
Edison Elementary School District is proud to participate in this county-wide program, which encourages a love of reading, builds teamwork, and challenges students to think critically about what they read.
Reading Requirements:
- 3rd graders must read 12 out of 15 books
- 4th–6th graders must read 20 out of 28 books
- Junior High students must read 20 out of 28 books
For more information about Battle of the Books at the county level, visit the KCSOS Battle of the Books page.
Science Fair
The Edison Science Fair gives students the opportunity to explore the world of science through hands-on investigation and inquiry. Students develop their own research questions, design experiments, collect data, and present their findings. The Science Fair encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and the scientific process. Outstanding projects may advance to compete at the county level.
Panthers Night
Panthers Night is a celebration of student achievement and school community. This special event brings together students, families, and staff to recognize academic accomplishments, showcase student work, and celebrate the Edison Panther spirit. It is one of the highlights of the school year and a wonderful opportunity for families to connect with our schools.
School Assemblies
Edison schools host assemblies throughout the year to celebrate student achievements, recognize positive behavior, and build school community. Assemblies may feature student performances, award presentations, guest speakers, and special programs that reinforce our district's values of excellence, respect, and responsibility.
Music Program
Edison Elementary School District is proud to offer a music program for our students. Music education supports creativity, discipline, and academic achievement across all subject areas. Students have the opportunity to explore musical concepts, develop performance skills, and participate in musical events that showcase their talents to the school community and their families. More information about the music program is available through your school office.
